Cocoapedia is a free non-profit Wiki founded by Oliver Drobnik and Sorin Stefan Nicolin.

It aims to organize pertinent facts about people, companies, tools, events and anything else related to development on the Cocoa and Cocoa Touch platforms.

[edit] History

Cocoapedia was founded - for the first time - in May 2009 by Oliver Drobnik and Sorin Stefan Nicolin. The COM domain was donated by Boaz Stuller. At that time the public was shut out, only approved users could read and write articles. It had to be considered a failure after as little as one month because it did not have any sense of openeness or direction. So interest waned.

In October 2010 Oliver Drobnik consolidated all his online sites to more powerful Linux-based server he decided to start from scratch. So Cocoapedia was relaunched on October 13, 2010 and the domain changed to ORG to signal the non-profit and non-commercial spirit of it. In less than two days the restarted Wiki amassed more users and more entries than the old one ever had.

[edit] Philosophy

Cocoapedia is modeled after Wikipedia as a compendium of socially-curated encyclopedic knowledge. To be granted a page in Wikipedia an entry has to meet stringent relevance criteria which eliminates many interesting facts that would be of interest to people working with Apple's software and hardware products. Cocoapedia aims to be the place where something can be put if it is not relevant enough for Wikipedia but still factual information relared to development with Cocoa.

Cocoapedia is and always will stay neutral, free of advertisement and open for everybody who has facts to share.
