Manning has been freelancing since high school, and in 2005 came to Objective-C development.
In addition to development work, Manning is a PhD student at the University of Tasmania, where he researches location-aware mobile social software. Jon has run several Apple development courses, and has presented at the Apple University Consortium’s developer conference for two years running. Jon holds a degree in Computer Science, and First Class Honours in Human-Computer Interaction, with a focus on location-aware mobile social software.
Manning gathered a lot of media attention for asking Scott Forstall about why the iPhone promotional videos showed 9:41 as time[1].

Manning is co-author of the books iPhone and iPad Game Development For Dummies and Unity Mobile Game Development For Dummies (both with Paris Buttfield-Addison and Neal Goldstein).
